Juan Manuel Cardona / Tour leader and co-founder
Juan is a Colombian bird and nature tour leader and a passionate advocate for birds and conservation. From his formative years in grade school, Juan was always attracted to the incredible biodiversity of his home country. He was a member of a local birding group named Aguilas in 1996, where he led walks as a student and excelled in identifying birds by sight and sound.
Based in the city of Pereira, he worked for several years as a nature and birding guide at the Otún Quimbaya Fauna and Flora Sanctuary. At that same time, he engaged in studies of tourism and heritage administration at UNISARC as well as music at the Technological University of Pereira. As his university education progressed, he became more serious about his educational pursuit of bird biology, focusing on bird behavior and migration.
He is also a co-founder of the NGO called the Yarumo Blanco Community Association, an organization whose objectives support and promote responsible tourism development, conservation, and nature education in the Otún river basin of Pereira. Moreover, Juan is opening up new worlds of birding in Colombia, leading tours and developing new birding routes in the Andes, Amazon and Orinoquia regions of the country.
Ingrid Valeria Nieto / Chief Logistics and co-founder
Valeria is the chief logistics since Birding Experiences was founded, and she has been actively working on developing the visitor experience for the company. She is also a professional musician from the Technological University of Pereira.
She has been connected to the world of birds thanks to her experience for the last 10 years near the protected areas surrounding the Otún River, its social processes, and ecotourism, which has led her to understand, appreciate, and become increasingly interested in birds and their conservation. She has been actively involved as chief logistics and, together with Juan Manuel, is responsible for designing and ensuring that our visitors have a truly unforgettable experience.
